Bengaluru Man Beats Son To Death With Cricket Bat; ‘Doesn’t Matter If You Die’

Bengaluru: How desperate can a man get that he can kill his son without any regret?

The gruesome incident took place in Bengaluru after an argument between the father and son over the latter’s mobile addiction and lack of interest in studies.

Ravi Kumar, a carpenter by profession, beat up his 14-year-old son with a cricket bat and slammed his head against a wall to end his life.

“It doesn’t matter to me if you live or die,” were the father’s last words to his son Tejas, who stayed with his parents and two younger siblings.

Kumar even tried to cover up the murder after committing the crime.

The incident came to light after police received a report about the suspicious death of a schoolboy in Bengaluru’s Kumaraswamy Layout area. When they reached the spot, cops were greeted by a shocking scene — the boy’s bier was ready and his family was busy preparing for the last rites.

Police acted swiftly, took custody of the body and sent it for postmortem.

The autopsy report revealed that the teenager suffered serious internal head injuries and multiple wounds on his body, indicating he had been brutally assaulted.

Police inquiry revealed that Kumar was extremely angry with the class IX student for his disinterest in studies. An argument ensued when the boy told Kumar that his mobile phone had to be repaired. In a rush of blood, Kumar got infuriated to such an extent that he got hold of a cricket bat and beat up Tejas mercilessly.

Kumar then smashed his son against a wall, and told Tejas he couldn’t be less bothered if he wasn’t alive.

The boy fell to the ground and writhed in pain for around 6 hours — from 8 am to 2 pm – as his condition worsened.

It was only after he stopped breathing that Tejas was taken to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead, according to police.

“There used to be heated arguments between the child and his parents. They were not happy about his performance in studies and excessive use of mobile phone. They claimed he was also keeping bad company. That led to the boy’s murder,” said Lokesh B, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South).

Realising what he had done, Kumar hid the bat, tried to clean blood stains from the body and started preparing for the last rites.

According to police, Kumar attempted to destroy evidence and make it look like a normal death.

The father has been arrested as investigation is underway.
