Bengaluru: The Karnataka capital was rocked by a shocking case of a film producer being accused of kidnapping his wife to take custody of their child.
The accused is the owner of Vardhan Enterprises and a film producer.
Film producer Harshavardhan, the accused, is the owner of Vardhan Enterprises, while his wife Chaitra R is an artiste who works in serials and films. The couple married in 2023, and has a one-year-old daughter.
According to a complaint filed by Chaitra’s sister Leela R, the couple had separated due to marital disputes over the last 7-8 months. Harshvardhan was staying in Hassan, while Chaitra moved to a rented house with their one-year-old d
aughter, reported NDTV.
The actress told her family on December 7 that she was travelling to Mysuru for a shooting assignment.
As it turned out, it was allegedly a part of her estranged husband’s plan.
As per the complaint, Harshavardhan allegedly paid Rs 20,000 as advance to his associate, Kaushik, who with the help of another person called Chaitra to the Mysuru Road Metro Station around 8 am. The actress was then forcibly taken in a car and driven away.
A couple of hours later, Chaitra managed to alert a friend called Girish, who immediately informed her family about the abduction.
Harshavardhan then called Chaitra’s mother, admitting to the kidnapping and issuing a chilling ultimatum — bring the child to a specific location, or Chaitra won’t be released.
He later contacted another relative, asking him to bring the child to Arsikere, assuring that Chaitra will be released safely.
Chaitra’s family members, who were scattered in different locations, got together and approached police.
A case has been filed based on Leela’s complaint.
