Berhampur: After carving a 1 mm sculpture of Lord Jagannath in ‘Gambhari’ wood, Satya Narayan Maharana of Berhampur has created a replica of ‘Nandighosha’, the chariot of Lord Jagannath, using buttons.
Satya Narayan Maharana unveiled his creation on the occasion of Rath Yatra on Monday.
“I have used 1097 buttons of different colours, including yellow, red, green and blue, as well as mixed colours to built this chariot of 11 inches height and 8 inches width. It took me five days to complete this chariot, coinciding with Rath Yatra,” the 36-year-old told Odisha Bytes.
Satya had earlier set 25 international and national records by creating the smallest artefacts in different mediums, including wood, chalk, soap and sand. He has built chariots of different sizes in wood, ranging from 1 mm to 18 inches. However, it was for the first time that he used buttons for it.
He claims that the miniature idol, which he sculpted to celebrate the ‘Naba Jaubana Besha’ of the Lord on June 9, is the smallest in the world.
