Berhampur: The COVID-19 induced lockdown has left people stranded at home. Even emergency outings are sometimes not possible with lack of public transport on the roads.
Keeping in mind commuters’ problems, Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) has come out with a plan to ensure that no person suffers in emergency owing to lack of vehicles on the road. It has arranged for 22 auto rickshaws to help people in emergency. BeMC issued the order on Sunday.
BeMC issued a list with the drivers’ names, registration numbers of vehicles along with the drivers’ phone numbers. These vehicles will be allowed to ply on road during lockdown and will cater to people’s needs in emergency.
People have also been advised to approach authorities in case they face any difficulty during emergency. The charges have been fixed at Rs 10 per kilometre.
