Berhampur: Proceedings were disrupted at a meeting of the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) on Wednesday due to uproarious scenes as two groups of corporators entered into a heated argument.
As per information, pandemonium prevailed during the meeting after two groups of corporators entered into a verbal duel over a newly-constituted standing committee and certain other issues.
Shortly after the proceedings commences, agitated corporators were on their feet shouting slogans. Repeated pleas by Mayor and others went unheeded as the corporators were engaged in intense exchange of words over the standing committee.
As no business could be conducted, Mayor and BeMC commissioner left the meeting.
The corporators later staged a dharna near the main gate of the corporation office raising slogans.
The unruly scene during the meeting was stated to be a fallout of the defeat of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in the last elections. Observers said the BJD corporators have been divided into two groups after the poll debacle of the regional party.
