Berhampur: In a step towards women empowerment and to provide them security in an effective manner, Berhampur police on Sunday launched a special mobile unit for women on the occasion of Mother’s Day.
Inaugurating the mobile unit under ‘Swayam Siddha’ programme, Women and Child Development minister Prafulla Samal said, “The noble initiative will not only empower women, but also give them an opportunity to access their rights and inculcate a sense of legal awareness among them.”
The special unit, comprising police personnel and representatives from NGOs, will also make women aware about their legal rights by visiting their houses, Patel added.
Speaking on the occasion, additional SP, Berhampur Trinath Patel said, “Under the programme, a special mobile van named as ‘Surakhya Rath’ will be launched. The van will visit all the panchayats and wards to receive the grievances of women and take up the same for investigation on a priority basis in order to deliver an early justice.”
