Berhampur: Chandan Kumar Sahu from the city bagged gold medal in World Body Building and Physique Sports Championship organised by Uzbekistan Body Building and Fitness Federation at Tashkent.
Chandan beat competitors from 60 countries participating in this competition to win the gold medal in 60-kg category. The championship opened on October 1 and would continue till October 7.
Chandan, who resides in Laxmi Nrusingha Sahi of Old Berhampur, is pursuing his BBA in a private institute in Berhampur. His father runs a tea stall in the city.
Chandan’s coach S Rajesh Babu Acary said he undertook rigorous training in his gym for eight months. “He spent most of the time all these months in my gym for training,” Acary said.
“Chandan had taken loans to go to the competition after he was selected for this prestigious international event. The gold medal is a reward for his rigorous and dedicated efforts,” said the coach.
Golden boy Chandan will return to Berhampur on October 9.
