Berhampur: The Berhampur University was closed sine die on Saturday following student unrest on the campus.

The authorities have issued instructions to the students to vacate the hostels by 10 am.

A group of students turned violent on Friday after the nominations of some candidates of the university were cancelled by the authorities.

The irate students ransacked properties inside different departments of the educational institution and later staged a dharna in front of the PG Council office.

Adequate police personnel have been deployed in and around the campus to prevent any untoward incident.

Campus violence forced authorities of Samanta Chandra Sekhara (SCS) Autonomous College in Puri and Anandpur College in Keonjhar to declare sine die on Friday.

Following rejection of the nominations of some candidates, students staged protest and gheraoed the Principal in SCS College. Bombs were also hurled at girls’ hostel on Thursday night. Following this, the authorities closed the college sine die.

Similarly, Anandpur college authorities canceled the elections and declared sine die following reports of sporadic violence on the campus.

After the nominations of two presidential candidates rejected on Thursday, tension gripped Rajdhani College in Bhubaneswar.  Police forces were deployed to control the situation even as students shouted slogans and held demonstrations.

Later, sine die was declared for the college.

Similarly, sine die was declared in Deboray College at Nayapalli in Bhubaneswar after unidentified miscreants hurled bombs.

Pre-poll violence was also reported in Banki Autonomous College, Cuttack, and Maharaja Purna Chandra (MPC) Autonomous College, Baripada, the same day.
