Berhampur: The court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur on Thursday convicted former chief district veterinary officer (CDVO) of Gajapti district Dr Jaladhar Mallick in a bribe case and sentenced him to 2 years of simple imprisonment.
The court announced the sentence for the offence under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. It also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the convict and in default of payment of fine, he has to undergo further simple imprisonment for a period of 4 months.
The court further sentenced Dr Mallick to undergo simple imprisonment for 2 years and to pay fine of Rs 5,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further simple imprisonment for 4 months for the offence under Section 13(1)(d) r/w 13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
As per the case, Vigilance officials had nabbed Dr Mallick red-handed while taking illegal gratification (bribe) of Rs 10,000 from a Livestock Inspector for his transfer from Gaiba Livestock Aid Centre (LAC) to Siali LAC
under Kasinagar block in Gajapati district.
