Jagatsinghpur: As many as 9 betel vines were razed for the proposed integrated steel plant of JSW in the district and compensation paid to the farmers on Wednesday.
The betel vines at project site in Govindapur panchayat of the district were demolished and Rs 30 lakh compensation paid to 14 betel farm growers. After 8 betel vine owners of Patana village under the panchayat surrendered their vines voluntarily to the JSW project, two vines were demolished.
Two teams accompanied by Erasama tehsildar, police and JSW officials conducted the demolition drive without any obstruction.
According to sources, the villagers are coming out in support of the project due to the rehabilitation and compensation packages announced by the steel major earlier this month.
Meanwhile, JSW authorities have planned to launch a socio-economic survey at the project site villages so that the company would be able to know the financial condition of the villagers and initiate action accordingly, according to a JSW press release.
