Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to act tough against the defaulters of Holding Tax.
The BMC Deputy Commissioner has issued a directive to seal the house and business establishments of the defaulters.
As per the directive to the zonal deputy commissioners (ZDCs), ward officers will collect the Holding Tax. They will also submit a list of the defaulters to the respective ZDC, who will register a certificate case against them under the Odisha Public Demand Recovery (OPDR) Act, 1962.
Sources said the civic body has sustained a huge revenue loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic and it hopes to compensate for the loss by collecting Holding Tax from all residents.
