Revealing details of the gang’s modus operandi, police have released a video to alert people.

In the video, a gang member, who identifies himself as a manager of State Bank of India (SBI), is seen calling a customer over phone and asking him to provide the 16-digit number of his ATM card for correction of his date of birth. The fraudster further wans the intended victim that if he fails to do this, the ATM card will be deactivated.

According to police, the gang members have been operating at several places in five states — Bhubaneswar in Odisha, Kolkata and Asansol in West Bengal, Alwar and Bharatpur in Rajasthan, Mewar and Gurgaon in Haryana, and Mathura, Varanasi and Jalapaur in Uttar Pradesh. The gang mostly targets cities with massive internet usage, police said.
