Mumbai: In this age of fake news and scamsters, even the judiciary is not spared.
The Bombay High Court has been at the receiving end of such mischief of late.
So much so that it has had to warn the public against fraudulent calls and messages from scammers, pretending to be High Court judges and other judicial officers, demanding money.
Having already notified the police about the fake messages and calls, the high court administration said it is also “independently initiating action against such miscreants.”
“Some calls are being made in the name of the judges of the High Court demanding money.. Text messages, links are being sent, shared, circulated involving judicial officers working under the control of the Bombay High Court,” stated a notice posted on the court’s website.
“It seems that some unknown persons are making these calls and sending text messages, links portraying fake identities involving names of judges and judicial officers,” the notice by the Registrar General spelt out, urging the public to report such calls and text messages to the police.
“Although the High Court administration is independently initiating action against such miscreants and also taking this matter to law enforcement agencies, as a matter of caution and to avoid any loss to any individual, by this notice everyone is being informed that if any such calls, text messages, links are received, apart from not responding… the same may be informed to the Nodal Officer Rajendra T Virkar on his email,” the notice said.
