Bhadrak, The Other Corona Hotspot In Odisha, Now Has 8 Positive Cases; One Patient With No Travel History

Bhubaneswar: The COVID-19 cases in Bhadrak, the second corona hotspot in Odisha, has gone up to eight. Bhubaneswar, however, continues to lead the affected tally with 46 confirmed cases so far.

Five fresh cases were reported in Balasore on Sunday. While three of them are from Basudevpur block, two are from Bhandaripokhrai block.

“Since one among the latest COVID-19 patient has no recent travel history to any other country or outside the state, the affected areas have been declared as containment zones to check the spread of the infection,” Collector Gyana Das informed on Monday.

However, the Odisha government is yet to release the travel history of these patients.

“No one will be allowed to enter the containment zones and the residents in these areas have been asked not to venture out of their houses,” the collector said.

All the shopping establishment have been closed, and people in these zones will be provided
essential items through various teams formed by the administration, he said.

“Distribution of PDS and other individual benefits in the five GPs of Basudevpur and Bhandaripokhari blocks will remain suspended during the containment period,” he tweeted.

CASE HISTORY

While the first COVID-19 case was reported in the district on March 31, two other persons tested positive for the virus on April 3.

The first patient was a 29-year-old professional, who had returned from Dubai, while the other two had contracted the infection at the Tablighi Jamaat event in Delhi Nizammudin.

TRAVEL HISTORY

Two among them have been fully cured of the disease.

The fresh cases were reported a day after the administration lifted containment restrictions in the district. Puruna Bazaar, Charampa and Erein were earlier declared as containment zones. The restrictions were lifted from Puruna Bazaar on April 15 and the rest two places on April 19.
