Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s capital Bhubaneswar has been placed under a security blanket in view of the Bharat Bandh against the Agnipath scheme.
Anticipating protests in Bhubaneswar, police personnel have been deployed in large numbers at railway stations and army areas of the city besides key traffic intersections and Master Canteen Square.
Personnel from the 120 Infantry Battalion and RPF are also assisting the police.
The CPI took out a demonstration from Ashok Nagar to Rajmahal Square.
Nearly 22 platoons of police force have been deployed at various locations in the capital.
A day after the service chiefs ruled out rolling back the Agnipath scheme and revealed the recruitment timelines, some groups have given a nationwide ‘Bharat Bandh’ call on Monday.
More than 10 states witnessed protests against the scheme over the last week. Massive vandalism was reported from several parts of the country as trains were torched and demonstrators took to the streets.
Over 500 trains have been cancelled on Monday. The railways has suffered huge losses due to arson and vandalism by protesters.
