Bhubaneswar: The Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapara district will remain closed to visitors from May 1 to July 31, with the onset of the breeding season of estuarine crocodiles.
The prohibition will be imposed to ensure safety of humans and provide a congenial environment to the breeding crocodiles, said DFO of Rajnagar Mangrove (Forest) and Wildlife Division, Bimal Prasanna Acharya.
The crocodiles get disturbed during nesting and breeding period. Also, they turn more violent, because of which most crocodile attacks are reported during the nesting season, said the sources.
