Bhitarkanika National Park Reopens For Tourists

Kendrapara: The Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapara district
reopened for tourists and visitors on Thursday.

“This year, the headcount of both estuarine crocodiles as well as
birds has increased as per the census conducted at Mahakalapada,
Kanila, Gahiramatha, Patasala and Bhitarakanika areas under Rajnagar
range in the district”, Rajnagar Divisional Forest Officer Bimal
Prasanna Acharya informed.

According to the crocodile census conducted from January 3, the number
of estuarine crocodiles has enhanced by 16, from 1682 last year to
1698 this year.

The park was closed from January 3 for annual census of estuarine
crocodiles and headcount of migratory birds.
