Bhubaneswar Bizman Assault: Victim’s Family Scared After MLA Comes Calling At Midnight

Bhubaneswar: Kamaljit, the wife of assault victim Parvinder Pal Singh, on Thursday said that some people visited their house in the dead of night, leaving the family scared.

“The bell started ringing around 1. 10 am. I was too sacred to open the door as I stay alone with my three children,” she said.

The footage of the CCTV installed in front of their apartment purportedly shows four people, including Bhubaneswar Central MLA Ananta Narayan Jena and DSP Anup Kanungo, visiting their house on Wednesday night.

“They again came to our house this morning and assured us not to fear,” she added.

Kamalit also questioned as to why the accused were not booked under Section 307 for attempt to murder, considering the gravity of the injuries her husband had sustained in the attack. “We fear for our lives since the accused are out on bail,” she said and sought police protection to the family after the incident.

Jena later told the media that he had visited the family as a local MLA to express his sympathy and solidarity with the family.

Speaking to Odisha Bytes, DCP Bhubaneswar Arun Sahoo said that the case was registered on the basis of circumstantial evidence and the medical report. “I have personally met the victim and an ACP has been posted outside the apartment since last night to ensure his safety,” he added.

Singh was beaten black and blue when he reportedly asked two men to move their vehicle from front of the entrance of his apartment in Laxmisagar police station area on Tuesday. The incident took place in front of his minor daughter and in the presence of policemen, who allegedly stood there as mute spectators.

In his complaint, the businessman alleged that the accused had also abused him. “I managed to get inside my house and dial 100. When the police arrived, they insisted that I come outside despite my reluctance. The anti-socials then thrashed me in front of the police,” he said.

Besides arresting the three accused, the Commissionerate Police acted swiftly and permanently removed the PCR van in-charge from the police department for negligence.

Those arrested were granted bail by the Bhubaneswar SDJM court here later in the day.
