Bhubaneswar: Odisha turned a frying pan on Friday as temperature zoomed to 42 degree Celsius in 10 places with capital city Bhubaneswar turning the hottest in the state.
According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bhubaneswar recorded maximum (day) temperature of 43.5 degree Celsius.
The capital city was followed by Paralakhemundi with 42.6 degree, Talcher 42.4, Malkangiri and Boudh 42.2, Angul 42.1 and Jharsuguda, Balangir, Titlagarh and Nayagarh with 42 degree Celsius.
Bhubaneswar had recorded 39.8°C by 11.30 in the morning. The city’s highest temperature in April was recorded at 45.8 degree Celsius on April 11, 2016. Next highest was 45.1 degree on April 28 same year.
The IMD said due to prevailing Northwesterly/Westerly dry air and high solar insolation, maximum temperature is likely to be more than 40°C at many places of the state and is likely to be above normal by 3 to 5° C in some districts till April 6.
The weather office has issued a yellow warning and forecast that heat wave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places in the districts of Khurda, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Boudh, Malkangiri, Nayagarh, Angul, Balangir, Kandhamal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda.
Warm night condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places in Sundargarh, Balangir, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, Malkangiri, Nayagarh, Boudh and Dhenkanal.
