Bhubaneswar: The capital city continued to be the hottest place in Odisha, recording highest day temperature of 40.6 degree Celsius on Saturday.
According to India Meteorological Department’s evening release, hot weather condition with above normal maximum temperature by about 5 degree Celsius is very likely at some places in Khurda, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Balasore, Angul and Mayurbhanj districts besides Bhubaneswar City during next 2-3 days.
Citing the causes of high temperature in February, the national weather agency said due to clear sky and very low moisture content in the atmosphere, direct solar heating has increased. Besides, the anticyclonic wind flow at lower levels is leading to adiabatic warming of air over the region. As a result, hot weather condition is prevailing at some places in Odisha.
Bhubaneswar witnessed the mercury reaching 40.4 degrees Celsius on Friday. The highest maximum temperature in the month of February in the city during the last 10 years period was recorded as 40.9⁰C on February 20, 2016 and all time record was 42.7⁰C on February 23, 1963.
