Bhubaneswar: The court of Additional Sessions Judge, Bhubaneswar has convicted two persons for possession of illegal arms and sentenced them to two and half years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each of them.
As per the case, the STF of Odisha Police had arrested the convicts, Rakesh Kumar and Bikas Behera of Dhaulimuhan village under Khurda Sadar police station, during a raid in October, 2020. The police nabbed them while they were doing a deal with some customers for sale of the arms on Dasapur-Chandaka road near Chandaka in Bhubaneswar.
The police had recovered 7 arms and ammunitions from possession of the arrested duo. The seized arms included 2 pistols, 4 country made revolvers, one shotgun, one 7.62 MM live SLR ammunition and 11 country made live ammunitions.
Following investigation, the police had filed charge sheet against the accused persons under Arms Act, 1959.
The court found the accused persons guilty and sent them to jail. Besides undergoing the RI and paying the fine, the convicts have been ordered by the court to undergo RI for two more months in case of default of payment of fine.
