Bhubaneswar: On the last day of 2022, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh issued an advisory video message for the zero night celebration, which will be held without any COVID restrictions after two years, across Odisha capital on Saturday.
“People are likely to violate the traffic rules in excitement to celebrate new years’ eve. I request citizens to avoid over-speeding of vehicles, to ride at a speed of 50 km/hr, do not drink and drive, and in case you are attending any party, it is advisable to go along with a driver,” he said.
The Twin City Commissionerate Police has geared up to ensure a safe celebration of the New Year. In Bhubaneswar, the police would put up checking points and carry out blocking operations on main roads from 7 pm on December 31 to 2 am on January 1, 2023. The police check posts would be put up at 28 strategic and crowded places around the city.
DCP Singh added that strict action will be taken against the violators.
Similarly, police teams will be deployed at 17 places to check drink and drive. Quick action teams will be stationed at 4 places while the striking force will be on guard at 3 places. As many as 13 platoons of police force have been planned to be mobilised to enforce law and order at celebration joints like hotels, restaurants, clubs, guest houses, and other places.
Besides, traffic congestion is likely to occur at Janpath, Nandankanan Road, Cuttack Road, and Rasulgarh on New Years’ Eve. “We will keep sharing live updates of traffic congestion through FM radios, official Twitter account of DCP Bhubaneswar, and DCP Traffic,” he added.
He further added that citizens should avoid parking their vehicles on the road, and should ensure the locking of their respective vehicles.
