Bhubaneswar Encounters Hailstone Showers

Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha including state capital Bhubaneswar witnessed thunderstorm and hailstone showers on Monday, disrupting normal life.

In the capital city, reports of hailstone showers were received from several areas including Acharya Vihar, Jaydev Vihar, Baramunda, Nayapalli, Shatabdi Nagar, CRP Square, Soubhagya Nagar and Ghatikia.

The showers continued for quite some time in the afternoon, forcing people to keep indoors, sources said.

Reports of thunderstorm, lightning and hail showers were also received from different places in several districts including Balangir and Balasore, as forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Moderate rainfall was also experienced in the millennium city of Cuttack earlier in the morning.

The IMD has also forecast thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Cuttack in the next 24 hours.

It said there will be no large change in the maximum temperature during next the 24 hours. Temperature will gradually rise by 3-4 degree Celsius thereafter at many places over the districts of Odisha.

Thunderstorm with lightning is likely to occur at one or two places over  Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Cuttack districts where IMD issued a yellow warning till Tuesday morning .

Similarly, light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely to occur at a one or two places over Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Jajapur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Koraput district between Tuesday and Wednesday.
