Bhubaneswar: The Odisha capital is among several Indian cities that have failed to meet specifications for safe drinking water set by ‘Indian Standard (IS)-10500:2012’.
According to a study conducted by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), tap water samples collected from Bhubaneswar failed in the acceptable level of chloramine, which is used to disinfect water.
It was worse for the waters of Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai, which failed in almost 10 out of 11 quality parameters.
Chennai’s water failed in 9 parameters such as turbidity, odour, total hardness, chloride, fluoride, Ammonia, Boron and Coliform, the study showed.
Tap water from Hyderabad, Ranchi and Shimla also failed on some parameters.
Mumbai, however, passed in all 11 parameters.
