Bhubaneswar: In a significant recognition, Odisha’s capital city has received the Sustainable Transport Award (STA) honourable mention by the Institute for Transportation & Development Policy (ITDP) which works with cities worldwide to bring about sustainable transport solutions to improve urban life.
“It gives us immense joy to share that Bhubaneswar has received the STA honourable mention by @ITDP_HQ for CRUT’s efforts to modernize its #publictransit system with a focus on improving rider experience, advancing gender equity & offering more integrated trip options,” Bhubaneswar’s Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) tweeted on Wednesday.
The state of Jalisco in Mexico also received ‘Honourable Mention’ along with Bhubaneswar, while the city of Paris was declared winner at the 19th STA annual ceremony.
There were 12 nominees in all for the 2023 awards.
“I am excited and honoured to celebrate the 2023 winner Paris, France, as well as our 2 Honourable Mentions Bhubaneswar (India) and the state of Jalisco (Mexico). Of the 12 nominees in running for 2023 STA, this year’s winner and Honourable Mentions have shown impressive advancements in sustainable urban mobility within their regional contacts. In the face of the growing threat of climate change, these nominees have placed major focus on improving public health and urban resilience for years to come,” said Heather Thompson, CEO, ITDP.
