Aahan and Avipsha Dehury, two wild-card entrants, notched up straight-set victories in the first round girls’ U-18 singles event.
Aahan showcased her ample talent to see off the challenge of Akansha Ghosh 6-1, 6-4.
Avipsha had to fight hard and showed her resilience to oust Pal Upadhyay 7-6 (8-6), 6-4.
Another local player Debasis Sahoo, top seed in boys’ U-18 singles, started his campaign on a winning note. He overcame Aarav Chawla 6-3, 6-4 at Kalinga Stadium Tennis Complex.
However, promising local talent Aahan Mishra suffered a crushing loss in boys’ singles. Playing at a higher age level, U-14 player Aahan lost 0-6, 0-6 to fellow-Indian Parth Deorukhakar.
