Bhubaneswar: A man was duped of around Rs 5 lakh by some cyber frauds by assuring him of installing mobile tower and ATM kiosk on his properties.
According to police sources, the man belonging to Sailashree Vihar in the city had applied online for the installation of mobile towers of a reputed telecom service provider on his properties at Motiganj in Balasore and Gothapatana in Bhubaneswar.
After a few days, some unknown persons called him asking him to deposit Rs 29,000 for installation of each tower. The victim deposited the amount in the accounts given by the fraudsters.
Subsequently, the cyber frauds asked the man to deposit more money in several bank accounts on some pretext or the other. In the process, he deposited total Rs 3,89,730.
Not stopping here, the miscreants told the victim that if he was interested, they would open ATM kiosk on his property and wanted him to deposit Rs 1,73,800 for the purpose.
After depositing the amount in the said account, when the man did not get any more response, he lodged a complaint at the Chandrasekharpur police station. Police have registered a case and launched investigation.
