Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday launched the citywide WiFi service, ‘Bhubaneswar Me WiFi’.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said, “Today is a historic day for Bhubaneswar. The city of temples will have an IT backbone comparable to the best modern cities in the world. Bhubaneswar.Me WiFi project will be a game changer for our youth to realise the heights of knowledge economy. Bhubaneswar will stamp its entry as a global Smart City with 500 hotspots spanning the entire city under this project. There will not be any charge on data usages for citizens and free data pack is also provided to all users.”
As part of the state government’s commitment to 3Ts — Technology, Transparency and Teamwork, similar free Wi Fi facilities will be made available in Cuttack, Sambalpur, Berhampur, Rourkela and Puri in the coming days, he added.
The project,which is accessible from the portal www.bhubaneswar.me, has been started with 100 hotspots having 275 access points on day one. There are plans to introduce 518 hotspots with 1800 access points in the subsequent phase.
The speed of the internet service will be 2 Mbps. Each user will get 250 MB of free data for 30 minutes. It can be recharged for further use.
