Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project To Be Completed As Per Schedule, Says Minister

Bhubaneswar: The works of Bhubaneswar metro rail project would continue as per timeline and meet the deadline set earlier, said Minister of Housing and Urban Development Krushna Chandra Mohapatra on Thursday.

Chairing a high-level meeting of the department, the minister said Bhubaneswar being the capital of the state, all efforts would be made to develop it into a global city. The metro rail project in this regard holds significance and should be completed as per schedule, he added.

Stressing the development of all urban areas in the state, he said NACs, municipalities and municipal corporations need to be more active. He advised the officials to focus on infrastructure and modern facilities in this regard.

The Minister also instructed the officials to prevent artificial flooding in urban areas and streamline the drainage system with a thrust on Bhubaneswar. People’s welfare should be looked into along with the development works, he added.

On the direction of the minister, a guideline has been issued by the department regarding rainwater and floodwater management in urban areas. All municipality officials have been advised to comply with it.

G Mathivathanan, additional chief secretary, Housing & Urban Development department made a presentation on the ‘Successful Journey in Urban Development’ and detailed the achievements of various schemes and programmes of the department.
