Cuttack; The Orissa High Court has sought the progress report of the investigation into the Bhubaneswar minor girl gang-rape case from the state government.
Hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed in connection with the case on Wednesday, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Mohammad Rafiq and Justice BR Sarangi directed the government to submit the probe progress report on next date of hearing November 9.
The high court has also asked the government to provide security to the victim’s family.
On the direction of the HC, the Crime Branch SP was appointed as investigation officer of the case. An Additional SP, three women inspectors and one inspector from the Cyber Cell are assisting in the probe.
In its affidavit submitted before the HC, the Crime Branch stated that though the incident occurred in April, a complaint was lodged on August 30. It is facing difficulties in getting the biological evidence due to the gap of around four months.
The Crime Branch also stated that the polygraph test of the accused has been completed and the report is awaited.
