Bhubaneswar: Alleging illegal sand mining in Odisha capital allegedly in collusion with the state government, senior BJP leader and Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi on Monday sought probe into it by the Centre and the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
Raising the matter in Lok Sabha, the parliamentarian alleged that illegal sand mining is being undertaken by sand mafia in Jaydev Assembly constituency area in Bhubaneswar in connivance with the state government.
Sarangi said she visited the area and carried out an inquiry after getting information about the illegal activities and found that the allegation about sand mining was correct.
Stating that she has already made a written complaint in this regard, the lawmaker claimed that the sand mining activities are having a negative impact on the people of the area and their life. Roads and bridges are also getting damaged, she said.
Urging the Union Environment Ministry and the NGT to send teams to the area and conduct an investigation, Sarangi said action should be taken against those involved in the racket.
