Bhubaneswar Police Hold Meeting For Restoring Peace In Violence-Hit Village

Bhubaneswar: A day after Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi sought immediate intervention of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for restoration of peace and normalcy in Padmakesharipur area, the Commissionerate Police on Sunday conducted a meeting in the violence-hit village, on the outskirts of Odisha capital.

Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh and additional DCP Prakash Chandra Pal along with ACP, Zone-5, Bhubaneswar and IIC of Mancheswar police station interacted with people from Majhisahi and Talasahi of Padmakesharipur, who assured to maintain cordial environment.

Local representatives, corporators, as well as neighbouring sarpanchs with peace committee members were also present. “All were motivated to maintain peace and tranquility in the village and police assistance was ensured for future,” a police release said.

Political rivalry is being attributed to the frequent clashes between natives of Padmakesharipur Tala Sahi and Padmakesharipur Majhi Sahi since the panchayat elections, which concluded over 17 months ago. Police had earlier arrested 77 people from both groups after a clash in the area last month.

Stating that women and children of the village are living in fear, Aparajita on Saturday urged the CM to form a peace committee to restore normalcy in the village in Bhubaneswar North Assembly segment. She also urged the government to ascertain the cause of the clash. “It is pathetic to behold the sight of the few residents in the village. A terrible atmosphere of fear, insecurity and pathos is seen and felt. Police action might have been necessary. However, it was all the more required on the part of the state government to get to the root cause of the problem and form a peace committee immediately,” she said.
