Bhubaneswar: The Twin City Police Commissionerate on Sunday suspended Priyabrata Pradhan, a sub-inspector posted at Saheed Nagar police station, following bribery allegations against him.
He was caught red-handed by Odisha Vigilance sleuths while accepting Rs 2,000 bribe from a person to hand him over his driving licence impounded for driving under the influence of alcohol the previous day.
“During the period of suspension, he will remain under the disciplinary control of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar UPD. He will draw usual SA and DA during the suspension period as admissible under Rule 90 of the Odisha Service Code,” the order stated.
Pradhan had demanded Rs 5,000 from the complainant to hand him over his seized driving licence and received the first instalment of Rs 3,000 on Thursday. He was apprehended while accepting the balance amount inside the police station on Saturday evening.
The Bhubaneswar Vigilance has registered a case in this connection and launched an investigation into the matter. His rented accommodation in VSS Nagar area here and house in Rebana Nuagaon in Puri district were also searched.
