Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Saturday took Satyajit Managovind Samal, the conman arrested for allegedly duping many women on the pretext of marriage, on remand for five more days.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Prateek Singh told reporters that the 34-year-old man’s remand has been extended by five more days for further sustained interrogation in custody to extract more information about his activities.

Stating that certain new information about the conman has been gathered during investigation during Samal’s remand, he said the accused had acquired some landed property after duping women.

A piece of land acquired by him has been detected at Malatipatapur in Puri and efforts are on to ascertain whether he has assets in other parts of the state too, the DCP said.

While steps have been taken to freeze bank deposits of the fraud to the tune of Rs 38 lakh, his pen drives and laptop have been sent to the forensic laboratory for examination and the reports are awaited.

Efforts are now on to ascertain whether other people are also involved in the fraudulent activities of the accused, while his passport is being thoroughly examined to find out details of his foreign visits, he said.

Notably, police has already seized a diary, containing names, addresses, contact numbers and other details of several women, from the residence of the accused. He was staying at Chandrasekharpur in the city.

Besides duping two women in Bhubaneswar and two others in Kolkata and Delhi, the conman from Jajpur district was allegedly wooing around 100 women on a matrimonial site under different identities. He mostly targeted divorcee and separated women and took money.

He was arrested on August 3 after being trapped through an operation, ‘Dulhe Raja’, in which a woman police officer, acting as a ‘prospective bride’, compelled him to return to Bhubaneswar from Dubai, where he used to flee after duping his victims.

He duped a working professional of Rs 36 lakh (27 lakh cash and Maruti Baleno worth Rs 8.15 lakh) and took Rs 8.60 lakh and a Royal Enfield Interceptor bike worth Rs 3.50 lakh from another woman in Bhubaneswar.

Investigation also revealed he had married two other women based out of Kolkata and New Delhi and had taken one car each from them. He then rented out those cars to travel agencies and made easy money. Marriage certificates were also recovered from the two women.

The comnam impersonated as a pilot of Riyadh Air, sales manager at Costa Coffee, Saudi Arab, CBI inspector and inspector Rahul of Delhi Crime Branch while targeting his victims.
