Bhubaneswar Remains Hottest Place In Odisha For Second Day

Bhubaneswar: Normal life was thrown out of gear in Bhubaneswar as the state capital recorded the highest temperature in Odisha for the second consecutive day on Wednesday.

An evening release by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar said the state capital recorded 41.7 degree Celsius while the temperature remained at 40 degrees and above in six places – Angul (41.1), Sundargarh (40), Bhawanipatna (40), Titlagarh (41), Malkangiri (40.5) and Sonepur (40).

Besides, the temperature remained close to 40 degrees Celsius in Cuttack (39.4), Jharsuguda (38.6), Keonjhar (38.1), Sambalpur (39.2), Hirakud (38.2) and Balangir (39).

It may be mentioned that the temperature in Bhubaneswar has remained over 40 degrees Celsius in April since 2016. The capital city had recorded the highest temperature at 44.1 degrees on April 10, 2016 and 42.2 degrees on March 21, 2018.

Talking to the media, duty officer of the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Sudarshan Mishra said usually, the temperature in Bhubaneswar remains higher than places in interior Odisha in April. “Normally, the temperature in the capital city comes down after 3 pm due to the wind blowing from the sea towards the surface at 20-22 km per hour. But as this system has not set in, the temperature in the city has remained higher than average. Once the system sets in, the temperature will not rise to this extent,” he pointed out.
