Bhubaneswar: While night temperature slightly increased in western Odisha, a declining trend was seen in coastal and interior districts in the last 24 hours.
The mercury plummeted 2.3°C below normal in Bhubaneswar, which recorded 12.8°C compared to 15.1°C the previous day. The night temperature was also 12.8°C in its twin city Cuttack, which had recorded 13.5°C the previous day.
According to senior meteorologist Umasankar Das, the night temperature in Bhubaneswar dropped by 2.1°C since Thursday. “While the temperature in the state capital was recorded at 16.6°C at 5.30 am yesterday, today, it has decreased by another 2.1°C and recorded at 14.5°C,” he posted on X.
The mercury plummeted to sub-10°C at 11 places. G Udayagir, the hill station in Kadhamal, was the coldest at 5.4°C, followed by Semiliguda in Koraput (7.2°C), Phulbani (7.5°C), Jharsuguda (7.6°C), Rourkela (7.9°C), Kirei in Sundargarg and Chiplima in Sambalpur at 8.8°C each, Daringibadi (9°C), Sundargarh (9.1°C), Angul (9.6°C) and Keonjhar (9.9°C), while Sonepur, Balangir and Bhawanipatna recorded 10°C each.
A fresh western disturbance is going to impact North India and under its influence temperature is likely to increase by 2-4°C from Friday onwards in Odisha, according to the India Meteorological Department.
The weather agency has also issued dense fog warning for one or two places in Sundargarh, Kandhamal and Koraput till January 11 morning.
