Bhubaneswar: A four-year-old girl of Kela Sahi slum in Sundarpada area under Airfield police limits in Bhubaneswar was allegedly raped and murdered on Monday night.
The accused has been identified as Ghania, who lives in the same slum.
According to sources, Ghania lured the deceased to his house on the pretext of giving her candies around 6 pm when her parents had gone to work. He then allegedly raped the girl and killed her by slitting her throat before fleeing the spot.
When the parents of the girl returned home, they found her missing and launched a frantic search. They later found her in a pool of blood with cuts on her neck in the neighbour’s house. She was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.
On the basis of a complaint lodged by the parents, the Airfield police have registered a case and started an investigation. A manhunt has also been launched to nab the accused. “We would be able to ascertain if the girl was sexually assaulted only after the autopsy report is received,” ACP Girija Chakrabarty said.
