Bhubaneswar: Most parts of Odisha came under the grip of heat wave as day temperatures went up sharply. The capital city was the hottest place, recording 42.1 degree Celsius.
Besides Bhubaneswar, the temperature went up to 40 degrees and above in Angul (40.3), Baripada (41.6), Jharsuguda (40.5), Sambalpur (41), Talcher (40.1), Bhawanipatna (40), Balangir (40.3), Titlagarh (41), Sonepur (41.8), Nayagarh (40) and Boudh (42).
At many other places, the maximum temperature was close to 40 degrees.
In a mid-day bulletin, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the as the cyclonic circulation over south Odisha and neighbourhood has become less marked, day temperature in the state will rise further by 2-3 degrees as the hot wind from the west will block the wind from the sea.
It further stated that although there will be rain and thundershower at some places in south coastal districts for three days from April 26, the day temperature will continue to rise in the remaining parts of the state.
