Bhubaneswar: Residents of Bhubaneswar woke up to extremely discomfort on Tuesday morning as high humidity coupled with rising temperatures raised the heat index to extreme levels.
The capital city recorded a temperature of 30.6°C at 5.30 am with relative humidity at 87%.
Due to the combination of temperature and moisture in the air, the feels-like temperature (Heat Index) soared to a scorching 42°C, according to senior meteorologist Umasankar Das.
This high “feels like” temperatur
e early in the morning indicates that the oppressive humidity is making the weather extremely sticky and uncomfortable for people.
Experts said such conditions are likely to cause discomfort, especially for elderly people, children, and those with respiratory issues. IMD has advised people to stay hydrated and avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak hours as the day progresses.
Similar humid and sultry conditions are expected to continue across several parts of Odisha in the coming days.
On Monday, Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 38.3 degrees Celsius, while Cuttack registered 37.8 degrees Celsius.
Many places in the western and interior parts of the state recording above 42 degrees Celsius on Monday. Boudh was the hottest place in the state at 45.9 degrees Celsius, followed by Titlagarh at 45.5 degrees Celsius and Balangir and Nuapada at 44.5 degrees Celsius each.
