Bhubaneswar: Plans are afoot to develop a dedicated corridor for movement of vehicles in order to decongest the Jaydev Vihar-Nandankanan Road and Bidyut Marg in Odisha capital from heavy traffic.
Sources said the public works department (PWD) has drawn up plans for the proposed corridor which will have flyovers, underpasses and service lanes.
The need to have a dedicated corridor has been felt for a long time as this stretch of road experiences heavy traffic in the absence of lane discipline and presence of mixed traffic. This apart, movement of more number of no non-motorised traffic and clogged junctions in different parts make the situation worse.
The road is also important as it provides a direct connectivity between the state capital of Bhubaneswar and the millennium city of Cuttack. The strech is also important as a large number of commercial establishments and shopping zones are located along the road.
A tender has reportedly been floated to select an agency to prepare a study report based on which a detailed project report is to be prepared to execute the proposed project, an official of the Bridge and Construction Corporation said.
As per the initial plans, the stretch will also have provision of service roads, wide sidewalks and parking provision, sitting spaces. pedestrian crossings as well as underpasses.
As part of measures to ease traffic on this busy stretch, some parallel roads have also been constructed and the proposed dedicated corridor is likely to improve the traffic situation considerably, the sources added.
