Bhubaneswar: Promoting Bhubaneswar as the ‘Sports Capital’ of the country, major sporting events are of late being organised at Kalinga Stadium here. Here’s another addition to that list with Indian Gateball Union deciding to organize the Indian Open Gateball Tournament in Odisha capital on December 22 and 23, to popularize the game.
Teams from India, China, Australia, Europe, Taiwan, Macau, Japan, Thailand and Indonesia will be participating in the event.
Odisha has been the champion in this sport and the team, representing India, on Sunday grabbed the first position in the triples event of Taiwan International Gateball Championship 2018.
The team, comprising Satish Prusty, Ranjan Kumar Patra, Biswaranjan Mishra, Dwaipayan Pattanaik, Niranjan Mangaraj, put up an impressive show after six years and also reached the quarter finals in the team event.
India had earlier won the championship at Bali in 2010 and Thailand in 2012.
The players are scheduled to reach Bhubaneswar on October 30 and gateball lovers have prepared a warm welcome reception for them.
