Bhubaneswar: A dedicated Gupchup Bazaar will soon come up near the Regional Institute of Education in Bhubaneswar.
Speaking to the media, Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das said that an unutilized land in front of the DM School will be developed into a dedicated place for vendors selling ‘gupchup’, one of the ever-green snack emotion for people of the city, on an experimental basis.
“We have cleared the area. It will be paved, beautified, and equipped with parking and other facilities. The market will accommodate 30-40 vendors, who will be provided with specially designed trolleys, and remain open from 4 pm to 9-10 pm with adequate lighting arranged for the evening hours. The emphasis will be on maintaining hygiene and wearing gloves while serving food as is prevalent in other states,” she said.
The objective: Provide a single organised location for vendors and customers alike, improving both convenience and cleanliness in the state capital.
Das added that the location was picked considering the presence of schools and colleges nearby. “It will also put an end to stalls put up in an haphazard manner across the city. If the experiment succeeds, we will consider such dedicated markets at other places in the city,” she emphasised.
