Bhubaneswar Touches 41°C, But Feels Like 50°C Amid Intense Sultry Conditions



Bhubaneswar:State capital Bhubaneswar sweltered at 41°C by 2:30 pm on Friday, though high humidity made it feel like a blistering 50°C. The oppressive heat index was fuelled by a 38% humidity level amid the city’s ongoing sultry weather, according to senior meteorologist Umasankar Das.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of hot and humid conditions at isolated places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh on June 5-6 .

Similar weather conditions may persist in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh during the subsequent two days.

There is also a warning for warm nights for Sundargarh, Sambalpur and Balangir on June 5-6.

Meanwhile, intense thunderstorm activity with wind speed of 50-60 kmph may continue in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayu


rbhanj, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur on June 5; and Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Gajapati on June 6.

Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (40-50 kmph) may also occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in the districts of Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh on June 5; and Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh on June 6.

Similar weather conditions may prevail in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Gajapati during the subsequent two days.

Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (30-40 kmph) very likely in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Ganjam, Koraoput, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh on June 7-8;  Similar weather conditions may continue in Sundargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh the following day.

While there is no warning thereafter, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm may occur at one or two places in Balasore, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Ganjam during the subsequent two days.

The MeT office added that there will be mo large change in the day temperature during the next 6-7 days.
