Bhubaneswar: In a rare case of honesty, a man has returned Rs 8 lakh that was deposited in his bank account by mistake, drawing appreciation from the locals in the city.
According to sources, Arun Ojha of Naugaon in Jagatsinghpur, a businessman in the capital received, received a text message on Saturday that Rs 8 lakh had been credited to his bank account.
Since Arun was not expecting such a huge amount from any source, he verified from the bank about the deposit. His bank confirmed the credited amount and said it was deposited from a branch of HDFC Bank in Uttar Pradesh.
“Usually my customers deposit Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh and hence I was taken by surprise on finding such a huge sum deposited in my account. In doubt, I called my clients to verify but all denied to have sent the money,” TNIE quoted Arun as saying.
He further said soon after the amount was credited to his account, the branch manager of HDFC Bank at Balia in Uttar Pradesh called him over phone and told him that they had wrongly deposited the money in his account instead of a customer.
Arun took the details of the customer, who was supposed to get the money, and after confirming that he was the rightful owner of the amount, he transferred Rs 8 lakh to his account.
