Bhubaneswar: The video of a woman being beaten by some youths at Bindu Sagar in Bhubaneswar’s Old Town area has gone viral on social media.
The victim, Sabita Sethi, told the media on Wednesday that the youths had encroached on her land and bukt a club. When she told them to vacate her land on Tuesday, they attacked her.
“Yesterday (Tuesday) I had taken my son for tuition around 5 pm and my daughter was alone in the house at that time. When I was returning home after dropping my son for his tuition, I received a call from my daughter that some youths were pelting stones. After arriving at my house, I asked these youths why they are pelting stones. Instead of replying to me, they slapped and kicked me on the road in full public view,” Sabita said.
“Though people watched the entire incident, they did not come to my rescue. To save my life, I ran inside my house and informed Lingaraj police station. However, police only arrived about an hour after the incident. Moreover, the policemen didn’t listen to my complaint and instead interacted with the anti-socials and left the area,” she added.
“The youths told me that I cannot do anything as they will have their club house on my land. These youths drink alcohol and smoke ganja in the club every day and use abusive language. The police are yet to take any action against them. The life of my family members is in danger,” she claimed.
