Bhubaneswar: The Odisha capital saw this year’s biggest spike of 698 new COVID-19 cases and one death on Friday.
It had seen 590 new infections the previous day.
According to Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), 150 among the new cases are from quarantine and 548 local contacts.
The highest of 43 cases have been reported from Nayapalli followed by 32 from Old Town, 29 from Patia, 28 from Chandrasekharpur and 24 from Baramunda.
A 59 years old man, who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus, also succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, taking the toll to 252.
One more person had died the previous day.
The cases summary tweeted by the BMC, however, has put the total deaths due to the infection at 251.
The civic body also informed about 316 more patients getting cured of the infection.
With this, Bhubaneswar now has 4417 active cases.
