New Delhi: The Delhi Rouse Avenue Court on Wednesday cleared Congress MP Shashi Tharoor of all the charges in his wife Sunanda Pushkar ‘mysterious’ death in 2014.
“The accused is discharged,” said Special Judge Geetanjali Goel while asking them to file a bond under CrPC during a virtual hearing in which Tharoor was present.
The prosecution had pressed the charges of abetment to suicide and cruelty under Section 306 and 498A of the Indian Penal Code and alternatively for murder under Section 302.
“Most grateful, your honour. It’s been seven-and-half years of absolute torture. I really appreciate it,” he said, adding that his faith in the Indian judiciary had been “vindicated”.
He wrote: “This brings a significant conclusion to the long nightmare which had enveloped me after the tragic passing of my late wife Sunanda. I have weathered dozens of unfounded accusations and media vilification patiently sustained my faith in the judiciary, which today stands vindicated.”
