Balasore: In the ‘biggest’ haul of brown sugar in the state, police seized the contraband worth around Rs 11 crore during a raid in Odisha’s Balasore on Friday.
IG (Eastern Range) Himanshu Lal said Balasore SP was informed about the huge amount of the brown sugar in Phuladi of Balasore town on October 27. A police team headed by the SP conducted the raid on the place on Friday.
The team seized 10.6 kg of brown sugar whose market value is estimated to be around Rs 11 crore from the place and arrested six persons, including the kingpin, identified as Ayub from Madhya Pradesh.
“This is the biggest-ever seizure of brown sugar by Odisha police till now. It is a major achievement as the quantity of seized narcotics is huge as well as its market value is high,” said Lal.
The police have launched further investigation to ascertain involvement of other brown sugar smugglers in the racket.
