Bhubaneswar: Two inter-state drug traffickers have been arrested with over 10 kg of opium, the “largest” seizure in Odisha yet, according a release issued by Odisha Police on Friday.
The arrested have been identified as Bitu Singh Munda (46) and Rohit Munda (49) of Jharkhand.
The release further said that the the duo was nabbed during a raid by a team of STF at Panposh in Sundargarh district on Thursday morning. “Opium weighing 10.508 kg and other incriminating materials were recovered and seized from their possession. The accused persons could not produce any document or authority for possession of such contraband,” it said.
The investigation and interrogation thereafter revealed that the duo and their associates, who are yet to be arrested, used to deliver opium to drug peddlers in Sundargarh, Rourkela in Odisha and Jharkhand after procuring the same from Rajasthan.
A case has been registered against them case registered under Section 18(b)/29 of NDPS Act 1985 and further investigation is on, it added.
