Cuttack: The COVID-19 tally in Odisha’s Cuttack touched 5921 on Monday with the highest single-day spike of 589 positive cases in the last 24 hours.
The virus also claimed one more life, taking the toll to 25. The deceased was a 65-year-old man, who was also suffering from diabetes and hypertension.
Following an increase in COVID-19 testing (over 50,000 since August 15), the district has witnessed a surge in positive cases with a whopping 1,791 cases being reported in the past one week along with seven more deaths.
The district reported over 200 cases for three consecutive days since August 18 and the number shot up to 589 in the last 24 hours.
A total of 117 cases were reported on August 18, 222 on August 19, 241 on August 20 with one death, 207 on August 21, 257 on August 22 with three deaths, 158 on August 23 with two more deaths and 589 on August 24 with one more death.
On Sunday, Cuttack collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani had informed the media ‘red village’ tag has been issued to 155 villages to contain the spread of the virus.
The villages have been divided into 21 clusters to expedite active surveillance for the identification of patients, he said, adding that the fatality rate in the district at present stands at 0.39%.
With 25 deaths and 3587 recoveries, the district now has 2305 active cases.
